Chief Fire Officer
As the Chief Fire Officer for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, you will be responsible for delivering an outstanding operational fire and rescue service to our Greater Manchester (GM) communities. You will be a transformational leader and, with the Mayor, set the strategic direction for GMFRS, its workforce and our partner organisations across GM.
GMFRS has already gone through a significant Programme for Change over recent times, including full service reviews and organisation restructure. The foundations have now been laid for the future of our service and it will be up to you to shape and lead our organisation into progressive new ways of working, as well as delivering a first class front line service to the citizens of GM.
As a member of our Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) Strategic Leadership Team, you will work with other Chief Executives from Local Authorities and other partner organisations across GM, You will be an important contributor to the achievement of our shared vision to make “Greater Manchester one of the best places in the world to grow up, get on and grow old” by delivering the GM Strategy and developing our place-based approach to Public sector Reform.
As our CFO you will have a seat on the National Fire Chief’s Council and be part of the wider National Fire Chief’s team in influencing and shaping the future of Fire and Rescue Services across the UK.
You will work closely and in partnership with our other core Blue Light services, including Greater Manchester Police, and North West Ambulance Service, forging an integrated approach to protecting and saving lives, preventing and responding to emergencies in GM.
Reporting and accountable to the Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham, this role has specific delegated authority over the day to day operations of GMFRS. The devolution of significant powers from Westminster makes GM a unique context for the next CFO to be a key part of the exciting work in shaping public services for the future.

We are looking for someone with high potential and with proven successful strategic senior management experience. Success in leading transformation and change programmes is a must. GM is ever evolving and we need a compassionate thought-driven leader to support and drive this change.
A high level of influencing and negotiation skills is essential: this role will involve working with key figures across Greater Manchester and the UK, including elected members and public, private and voluntary sectors Experience in successfully engaging and working with multi-agency partnerships is also essential.

The GMCA is made up of the ten Greater Manchester councils and Mayor, who work with other local services, businesses, communities and other partners to improve the city-region.
The ten councils (Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan) have worked together voluntarily for many years on issues that affect everyone in the region, like transport, regeneration, and attracting investment.
